One of the last of the 1967 GT500 production, this exceptional Shelby began life as a 4-speed car with outboard lighting. By its late production number, it is almost certainly one of the 1967's that was shipped from Shelby's production facility in Venice, CA back to Detroit and completed and sold from there as Shelby and Ford parted ways and Ford took over the production of the Shelby Mustangs late in the 1967 model year.
The exterior is is immaculate Concours condition with brand new paint. Every detail of the body and trim is perfectly original and in excellent condition.
This GT500 was completely and thoroughly mechanically rebuilt from front to rear. All work was professionally done. The build began with one of Shelby's brand new $5000 aluminum 427 FE engine blocks and a $2500 billet steel 428 Cobra Jet crankshaft. The engine is topped off with ported, polished, blueprinted Edelbrock aluminum heads packed with the best roller rocker valvetrain available. FPA tri-Y headers, and the original C7ZX dual 4-bbl intake running two 450 cfm Holleys. MSD distributor and ignition system, air conditioning, factory original power steering, power disc brakes, Canton deep sump road racing oil pan, and a massive racing radiator with thermostatically controlled twin electric fans, and remote oil cooler and filter.
Meticulously sorted, this 500+ horsepower monster motor starts at the touch of the key and runs cool! Torque produced is 575 ft/lbs at 3800 rpm! Detailed and finished with polished stainless hardware or plated. A Tremec TKO 5-speed overdrive, Lakewood scattershield, and the best McLeod clutch system available were put into the car. Rear axle is original 9" Ford with a new cast iron 9+ differential, Nascar grade pinion bearings, and True Trac posi-traction, all turning Moser 28 spline axleshafts. Front disc brakes were specced to the car from a 1971 vintage Lincoln Continental. The interior was completely insulated to a high standard with the best sound dampening, heat insulation materials available, and completely restored to as original with a couple of subtle upgrades.
