1955 Cadillac Custom Viewmaster Station Wagon
This 1955 Cadillac Custom Viewnaster station wagon is body #1 of only 7 Cadillac station wagons built in 1955. These 1955 Cadillac wagons were the only wagons built ever to be sanctioned or supported and approved by Cadillac Motor Car Division. Others were done as an independent program by custom coach builders.
The production of these wagons were done much like Cadillac did the 1959 Brougham and the Allante using an independent builder. In this case the builder was Hess & Eisenhardt Company of Cincinnati, Ohio, which did several presidential cars including the Kennedy Lincoln.
These vehicles sold for $10,000 and up. This particular car sold for $13,000. The high cost and uncertain production time killed the project for Cadillac. Hess & Eisenhardt carried on an independent program building 12 wagons in 1956 and sporadically one or two wagons a year for some time. Most of the wagons were 3-seaters. All of the 1955 wagons received the "woody" treatment except this wagon and body #6.
