Description: 1925 ROLLS-ROYCE PHANTOM I WINDOVERS ALL WEATHER TOURER ID# YO6111 This car was one of the first “New Phantoms” to be built back in 1925. Records show, that there was an accident shortly after she had been loaded at the docks bound for America, resulting in the cargo ship sinking to the bottom of the sea. The vehicle was subsequently recovered and sent back to the Rolls-Royce factory where it was completely rebuilt using a brand new chassis. It was retained by Rolls-Royce as their ‘development’ car for the next three years of its life and is thought to have been used as the personal transport of Henry Royce for this period. It was completely ‘reconditioned’ by the Factory in 1928 prior to being sold as a second-hand vehicle for a pricey sum. The car was sold to a ‘Lady’ in Scotland and just after the outbreak of World War II, this noble Lady donated the vehicle to the Scottish division of the Red Cross. The rear end of the bodywork was ‘chopped down’ and the vehicle then served its time out as an ambulance until the end of the war. Ironically and somewhat coincidentally, the color of the vehicle had been previously changed to Yellow over Black, emulating the storyline of the Rolls-Royce chronicled in the film ‘The Yellow Rolls-Royce’. Restored to her former glory sometime in the early sixties, back to the exact specification and color scheme she left the factory, in 1967 she was shipped back once again to the USA to her new keeper via the SS Queen Elizabeth. Twenty years later she changed hands again, returning once more to England. One wonders how long it will be before she gets itchy feet and sets sail across the Atlantic again?
