1901 Packard Model C
From the beginning James Ward Packard was devoted to building the highest possible quality vehicles. One example is that the 1901 Packard Model C featured a steering wheel when most American cars were still using a tiller. Reliability was shown in the 1901 New York to Buffalo touring contest. Eighty-nine cars started the tour including five Packards. When the race was cancelled due to the assassination of President McKinley, fourty-one cars were still running, including all five Packards.
The 1901 Packard pictured above is the fourth oldest Packard known to exist. The car was restored in the late 1960s and participated in the 1973 London to Brighton Run, an annual event for cars made before 1904.
