Description:
|
This 1926 Ford Model T Fire Truck, with American LaFrance equipment, was the first motorized unit used in Milan, Michigan.
In the early decades of the 20th Century, many small towns and villages in America purchased fire engines mounted on Ford Model T chassis. American LaFrance promoted this double-tank combination on a Ford one-ton chassis as "ideal apparatus for small towns and communities equipped with or without a water system." While visiting the Ford company soybean extraction plant in Milan, Michigan during 1938, Henry Ford noticed this Model T fire truck. Wanting to display it in his museum, he offered to give Milan a new fire engine in exchange for the older truck. This offer was quickly accepted. The names painted on the side of this truck are those of the firemen who were with the Milan Fire Department in 1938.
