1929 Ford Model A Town Car
When Ford introduced the new Model A on December 2nd, 1927, a deserving slogan swept the country - he had "made a Lady out of Lizzy". It is true that in the Model A, Ford managed to blend grace with the same sturdy qualities that had made the Model T America's most reliable automobile. But the truth of this fact was never more evident than it was when, on December 12th, 1928, Ford announced a new luxury model, the Town Car. According to initial advertising copy, this $1,400 limousine, introduced and at first sold only through Lincoln dealers, was "dedicated to the American women, who have always been quick to appreciate a personal conveyance of such intimate size, delightful convenience, and unquestioned taste". However, the timing of the introduction of the new Town Car could not have been worse. The depression put all such luxurious vehicles out of public favor. When the Town Car was discontinued in March, 1930, only 1,198 had been built.
