This race car cost an extravagent $20,000 at a time a decent house could be had for about $1,500.
Befor 1908, no American car had won a major international automobile race. This Locomobile, driven by George Robertson and sporting number 16, won the prestigious Vandebilt Cup race on Long Island, New York, in 1908.
"Old 16" is still in running condition and has never been restored. Its dents, dings, and faded paint reflect nearly 100 years of operation.
