Hannibal 8 - The Great Race
This car is from the movie "The Great Race" starring Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, Natalie Wood, and Peter Falk. Made in 1965, the movie is a comedy about a 20,000 mile race from New York to Paris. Jack Lemmon, the villianous Professor Fate, drove this car, the Hannibal 8 to carry out all of his nefarrious deeds. This car is the only one of six made that moves up and down and can be driven forwards and backwards. The engine and transmission are Volkswagen industrial models which allow the car to be driven while moving vertically. The cost to build the car in 1965 was about $70,000.
