Description:

1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans AM Racecar
Color: WHITE
Transmission: 5 SPEED
Cylinders: V8
Engine Size: 310
Horsepower: 575
Built by Huffaker Racing for the 1982 SCCA Trans-Am Race Series. The car is a tube chassis car with a fiberglass body. The engine is 310 CI producing over 575 HP mated to a Saenz 5-speed racing transmission and a Frankland quickchange rear end. All are authentic and period correct. Joe Huffaker's '82 Pontiac was the first Trans-Am race car manufactured with a true tube-type space frame. Previous Trans-Am race cars used modified production frames. The '82 Huffaker changed the way Trans-Am cars were built, setting a trend that is still used to this day. Needless to say, Huffaker won the '82 Trans-Am Championship with a two-car team sponsored by Mecham Pontiac of Phoenix. Car No. 55 was driven by Elliott Forbes-Robinson and No. 50 was driven by Steve Saleen and later in the year by Eppie Wietzes. Eppie finished second a couple of times late in the season, but Forbes-Robinson won the championship. No. 50 was campaigned in '83 by Mecham as a single car entry, again with Steve Saleen as the driver. At the end of the season, the car was featured in a movie "Malibu Express" (not a shining moment). Although Pontiac named a Firebird model "Trans-Am", they in fact only won the Trans-Am championship once, and this is one of the two-car team that did it. The car is fully restored with documented history; a significant historic race car--prepared for vintage racing. ***SOLD ON BILL OF SALE ONLY***
