1939 Cadillac Series 61 Business Coupe
135bhp 346 cu. in. ninety degree L-head V8 engine, three-main bearings, hydraulic lifters, Stromberg carburetor, Selective synchromesh manual transmission, Hotchkiss semi-floating rear axle and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 126"
The stylish Coupe was available in two or four passengerguise, but looked identical. The five-passenger sold for just $100 more making it the more popular model, but the two seater Business Coupe was rarer with only a handful being produced. Fitted with fulllength chrome belt moldings, long cone-shaped headlights and sporting horizontal trim side moldings it was a fashionable model.
This older restoration five window coupe has a slight patina that will be appreciated by collectors who not only show their cars, but also drive them. Its classic dark green paintwork would still shine after a good buffing, remaining as stylish as it was over 65 years ago. The chrome accents and trim are in good condition. The Coupe’s new brown, modern cloth interior, headliner and carpet are a bold, yet fashionable contrast. Aftermarket gauges have been added below the original dash to monitor oil pressure, temperature and voltage. The engine was recently serviced and fitted with new hoses and wires, but requires redetailing.
Decked out with wide whitewall tires, a rare factory radio, bumper guards and a grille guard, this eight cylinder Series 61 Cadillac Coupe requires little to be ready for a cruise down the highway. Of the 5,913 Series 61 models built in 1939 only 1,023 were coupes priced at $1,620. Of course, far fewer have survived and hardly any were two-seaters, which make this Cadillac very rare and indeed special.
