1949 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible Coupe
160hp 331 cu. in. overhead valve V8, five main bearings, hydraulic valve lifters, Carter WCD two-bbl, Hydra-Matic transmission, independent front suspension with rear leaf springs and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 126"
This exquisite cream colored Cadillac Convertible Coupe was fully restored by Bud Hicks, a well-known professional in the field of Cadillac restorations in the late 1990s. Its rich brown leather upholstery and handsome, contrasting black cloth top was handcrafted and installed by Mark Larder.
In 1999 this pristine Cadillac was declared the winner of the Honorary Chairman’s Award at the Eyes on Design event in Michigan. The award is presented by the Honorary Chairman to the vehicle he feels was the most outstanding in the show. That same year this pristine Convertible Coupe went on to win Best in Class at the Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance.
Cadillac would build its one-millionth car in 1949, but a mere 8,000 of the most expensive Series 62 models – the Convertible Coupe – would be built that year. Motor Trend magazine proclaimed the 1949 Cadillac as Car of the Year and 56 years later amongst those who know, it still is!
