1932 DeSoto Model SC6 Convertible Coupe
75hp 217.8 cu. in. inline L-head six-cylinder engine with a Ball & Ball carb, three-speed selective sliding with constant mesh transmission with freewheeling, double-drop X-type frame with four-wheel hydraulic brakes. Wheelbase: 112"
This stylish 1932 Desoto Convertible Coupe was completely restored to show condition and has all the elements for fashionable 1930s touring. The Convertible Coupe’s striking color combination of brown fenders with a yellow body, and a wide painted brown beltline highlighted by a fine orange pinstripe, accentuate the DeSoto’s flowing lines and styling nuances. The new for 1932 styling featured a rounded grille similar to those seen on the great Miller race cars of the day.
Options that distinguish this convertible coupe from many include the chrome (rather than painted) grille, front and rear bumpers and factory radio antenna. Available in 1932 was a custom SC sub-series of desirable accessories, which this convertible coupe incorporates. These included external chrome trumpet horns, dual tail lamps, dual windscreen wipers, safety glass, cigar lighters and adjustable seats. Other features include 5:25 x 18 inch wide whitewall tires on bright yellow painted wire wheels, a sporty rumbleseat, factory radio and a convertible top.
This DeSoto was featured in Automobile Quarterly Volume 20, issue no. one in 1982. Few of the mere 960 Convertible Coupes built in 1932 survive today. It is highly unlikely that there exists another example of this vehicle with the same color combinations and list of features, and if such an example did exist, it is even more unlikely that it could be in such fine condition.
