1930 Lincoln Model L Five Passenger Phaeton
90bhp 385 cu. in. side valve V8 engine with three-speed transmission, leaf spring front and rear suspension with solid front axle, torque tube drive and floating rear axle and four-wheel Bendix mechanical drum brakes. Wheelbase: 136"
Edsel Ford’s love of styling was felt at Lincoln almost immediately. For the first time, Lincolns were stylish as well as sound. His influence can still be seen in the graceful lines of the seven passenger touring offered here. Its proportions are influenced by contemporary European fashions, while being built to American proportions. With a list price of $4,200 they were expensive, and just 79 examples were built.
The example offered here was acquired by the vendor several years ago. Finished in an elegant gray with black fenders, this striking Lincoln is accented by a black leather interior and a tan canvas top. The chassis and wheels are finished in black to match the fender color.
The car is equipped with wind wings, a rear mounted accessory windshield, a Lincoln Greyhound radiator mascot, tan canvas covered dual sidemounted spares with accessory mirrors, wide whitewall tires, Trippe driving lights, a trunk rack, and a canvas covered accessory trunk.
Although the restoration is an older one, it remains in very good condition today. Paint is generally good, although some minor areas of flaws and chipping are evident. The chrome trim and brightwork are generally very good with little indication of deterioration since restoration. Engine bay detailing, while no longer fresh, remains quite good.
This striking Model L represents the end of the line for the Leland designed chassis, while incorporating the best influences of Edsel Ford’s sense of style and design. The example offered here is not only rare, but has been well maintained and is in excellent running order. It promises the collector a thoroughly enjoyable and highly practical Full Classic tourer.
