1937 Packard Twelve Rumble Seat Coupe
Series 1407. 175bhp 473 cu. in. side valve, twelve-cylinder engine with three-speed synchromesh manual transmission, front coil springs with rear semi-elliptic leaf springs and four-wheel vacuum assisted mechanical brakes. Wheelbase: 139"
The coupe offered here is one of the most attractive body styles available. It is finished in black with gray wool interior, a roll down rear window, dual golf bag doors and a rumble seat finished in black leather with fold over paint-guard arm rests. The graceful lines of the body are accentuated by the steel wheels and optional metal covered sidemounted spare wheels. In addition, the car is equipped with a Packard Adonis hood ornament, a windshield mounted side view mirror, an accessory trunk rack bumper, radio, and clock. It is worth noting that this Packard retains its original data tag with the information showing it was originally sold from the Delaware Motor Company as style no. 1038 and body no. 214.
The paint is quite presentable, although the car would benefit from a buffing as some fine surface scratches are evident. The engine and bay are nicely detailed and appear tidy. At the time of this printing the Packard Twelve was undergoing a mechanical checkup by RM Restorations to ready the car for the auction. A striking car, this remarkable Packard Twelve would be well suited for showing in competitive Concours d’Elegance events, although its recent mechanical restoration also makes it an ideal tour car for CCCA CARavans and other similar events.
