1935 Studebaker Dictator Roadster
Recent Single Ownership For 24 Years
88bhp 205.3 cu. in. L-head inline six-cylinder engine, four-main bearings, solid valve lifters, Stromberg carburetor, three-speed synchromesh transmission, semi-floating rear axle and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 114"
In 1935 the 13 body styles of the Studebaker Dictator were updated. The grille and radiator shell were narrowed and raked, and topped with a graceful “bird in flight” hood ornament. The hood now bore long horizontal louvres, which complemented the new elongated headlamp buckets. Gone was the traditional vee-shaped bumper, replaced by an across the car bumper with a bowed center.
Although cataloged as a Studebaker Dictator Roadster this sports model had roll-up windows like a true convertible. Hydraulic brakes behind 6:00 x 16 inch steel wheels and tires became standard on all Studebakers in 1935. In 1935 the radio speaker was placed in the headliner over the windshield. Studebakers attracted a number of celebrity buyers in 1935 including Mickey Rooney and Douglas Fairbanks.
The previous owner of this rare 1935 Studebaker Dictator Roadster owned and cared for it for 24 years. When purchased it was lovingly restored to its original showroom condition using many NOS parts that were available at the time including the running boards and large diameter steering wheel.
The extensive restoration resulted in a stylish Studebaker that could be shown with pride, yet driven anywhere without fear of breakdowns. Thus while this older restoration shows signs of enthusiastic use, it continues to be presented with People’s Choice awards for its stylish design and overall good, clean condition.
Painted in a stunning shade of red with silver accents the colors accentuate the roadster’s sleek, low design and distinctive rear end styling. The steps placed strategically for jumping into the rumble seat are definitely Art Deco in flavor, as are many of the other fittings and lines in this roadster. The tasteful red leather interior has many years of seat time left for the true enthusiast who loves to get behind the wheel of a sporty, powerful 1930s roadster.
Today, so few mid 1930 Studebaker roadsters ever become available that even the roughest of examples found are being restored. All this fine running Studebaker Dictator Roadster
requires is the turn of the ignition key.
