1917 Ford Model T Truck
In 1917, the Gonzales family of Oakland bought this 1917 Ford Model T one-ton truck new and had it equipped for selling fruits and vegetables. Over the next 46 years, the family members peddled produce from the "T Model" on the streets of Oakland and San Leandro, California.
During the 1940's, as a small boy in San leandro, Steve Cannizzaro ( now a docent and staff member of the Towe Museum) took great delight in "pinching" goodies from the back of the truck when he thought no one was watching. Fearing that the Statute of Limitations has not expired for these dastardly deeds, Steve now alleges that his Mom always paid the Gonzales' for what her wayward stole stole and ate.
In 1963, Frank Gonzales sold the truck to Lewis Rector, who purchased the Model T on behalf of the Towe Ford Museum. Lewis restored the truck and it was displayed for years in the Towe Museums. At the Towe auction in 1997, Lewis purchased the truck for himself and continued to exhibit it at the Museum. In 1999, Steve Cannizarro purchased the truck - the same truck from which he took delight as a young boy.
This truck has had only the four owners - the Gonzales family, the Towe Ford Museum, Lewis Rector and Steve Cannizzaro, who still takes great delight in this truck from his boyhood memories in San Leandro.
