Patrick Dempsey is known to many as an A-list actor in both television and film, but racecar driver and racing team owner are two more ways to describe him. Competing for Hyper Sport, which he co-owns with Rick Skelton, Dempsey competed in six races of the 2007 Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series, sharing driving responsibilities in both the No. 54 and No. 156 Mustang FR500C vehicles. Based around Atlanta, the Hyper Sport racing team campaigned two Mustang FR500Cs for the entire 2007 season, and a third in select events. Hyper Sport enjoyed a successful season in the KONI Challenge Series as team principal and driver, Joe Foster, finished second in the driver's championship, resulting in a second place finish for Hyper Sport overall in the team championship.
The Mustang FR500C used by Hyper Sport and Dempsey contains a 5.0 Liter Cammer R50 engine, and uses a 6-speed transmission. The dependable and durable vehicle, combined with the driving skills of Dempsey, helped him to his best finish of the season of Sixth Place at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Dempsey also competed in the No. 156 Mustang FR500C at Barber Motorsports Park. The Mustang FR500C was introduced for Grand-Am Cup competition for the 2005 racing season and was immediately competitive and powerful on the track. It claimed four victories in its inaugural year along with the 2005 team, driver and manufacturer's championships. Since its introduction, it has earned seven poles, 10 wins, 92 top-10 finishes and 25 podium appearances. With an average of 11 Mustangs in any given KONI race, the FR500C is the car of choice for those looking to get behind the wheel of a proven competitive vehicle.
