1994 Jaguar XJ 220 Supercar
$285,000 2008 Barrett-Jackson Auction Scottsdale AZ
The Jaguar XJ 220 is a rare and exotic, hand-built supercar produced by Jaguar Cars LTD, and world famous Tom Walkinshaw Racing. Winner of group "C" World Championships and eventually the highly coveted LeMans Race. Jaguar needed a throwback to its successful roots; a halo car to rival the performance of such cars as the Ferrari F40 and the Porsche 959. A proposal from Jim Randle, who was Jaguars' project engineer, set the wheels in motion for John Egan, President at the time, to launch a team of designers and engineers to work on the project. Soon known as the "Saturday Night Club" due to their long work hours and weekend schedule, the sheer passion of XJ 220 design project was evident. When the XJ 220 concept was unveiled at the Birmingham Auto Show, the response was overwhelming. It astonished the automotive world and attending media groups with sensual styling and swarthy lines never before seen on a road going supercar.
With more than just stunning looks, the performance of the Jaguar XJ 220 was breathtaking as well. It set a new world's top speed record for a production car at 217mph/350kph and 0-60 in about 3.5 seconds which even by today's standards is Enzo territory.
Specifications: The 3.5 Liter Twin-Turbo produces 542hp @ 7000rpm and 473ft. lbs. of torque @ 4500rpm. The car weighs in at only 3.025 lbs and has a lengthy wheelbase of 103.9". Height is 45". An astounding original price of $680,000 and only 281 cars were produced between the years 1992-1994. With beauty more than skin deep, this Jaguar XJ 220 supercar is artfully constructed of bonded and riveted monocoque chassis formed from lightweight corrosion-resistant aluminum-alloy sheet, and reinforced by aluminum honeycomb sections in highly stressed areas. Similarly race-derived was the double wishbone suspension, AP racing brakes, Speedline aluminum alloy wheels (17" front, 18" rear) and the 5-speed, all syncromesh transaxle sporting a viscous-control limited slip differential and full ground effects. This vehicle in particular, Jaguar #338, is a superbly maintained SoCal car with only 3,050km/1900 original miles as of this writing. Originally purchased from a museum in Norway through a California dealer, this fine example has a California title and current registration. It has an EPA/DOT California Emission Certificate and is ready to drive. This car is a concours show winner and the finest example of Jaguar's ultimate supercar. Original LeMans blue with soft grey leather interior and suede accents. Original wheels, tires, tools and rare owner's manual go with the car.
