For anyone who's ever gotten stuck in traffic behind a work truck crawling along, may we present Jesse's latest attempt to create the fastest (fill-in-the-blank here) ever: turning a 1999 Champ Car into the world's swiftest street painter. The team created and customized a rear frame section that was designed to fit within the body of the Champ Car. This proved a difficult task according to team member John Gregory of Gregory Racing Fabrications. "Making the rear frame section and fastening it to the tub of the Champ Car. Because these cars don't have a chassis we had to start from scratch. I thought it would be very hard to do in the time we had to do it."
For Jesse and his team, the biggest challenge was constructing a frame for the Champ Car and fastening it to a carbon-fiber tub capable of holding a Ford motor, a B&M transmission and a dragster differential. Another challenge was mounting a sizeable airless paint pump to the car.

VEHICLE SPECS: Height: 32" (56" with paint system); Width: 78.5"; Length: 199"; Length With Parts Extended: 216"; Ground Clearance: 2"; Weight: 2,450 pounds; Artist: Nick Garfias, designer, Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design. Hydraulics: The team used a hydraulic pump to power an airless spray system. Special Welds: Special welds were required to create a frame linking the engine, transmission and differential. In addition, TIG welds were used on the water inlets and radiator. Additional Acquired or Machined Parts: Includes an ignition system, radiator, remote water pump, switches, hoses, front-pedal assembly and wire harness.
