Description: 1957 Dodge Sweptside Hemi Pickup
$57,000 2008 Barrett-Jackson Auction Scottsdale AZ
Orange and black with matching interior. HEMI 270 engine, 3-speed selective sliding gear transmission. Ford, Chevy, and GMC may have been the sales leaders in the pickup truck market in 1957, but it was Dodge Sweptside that was the leader. New for 1957, the "Forward Look" of the car line-up was carried over on all Dodge pickups. The front fender lines were extended forward and the headlamps became hooded. The entire front end was remodeled for a fresh appearance including new grille treatments and a different bumper. The hood opened 45-degrees, or full 90-degrees for easy engine servicing. Late in the 1957 model year, Dodge introduced its K-Series D100 Sweptside pickup truck to compete with Chevy's Cameo Carrier and Ford's Ranchero. The Sweptside 100 featured the flamboyant rear fins and other styling cues grafted onto a long box from Dodge's own two-door station wagon. The rear bumper from the wagon was also fitted, along with some quarter moldings, for a true swept look described in Dodge advertisements as "Straight Out of Tomorrow." Sweptside pickups came standard with the Custom Cab, which added a glove box, two-tone seat material covering foam rubber cushions, two sun visors, a wrap-around rear window and two-speed wipers. Custom Cab exteriors featured additional chrome trim and embellishments. In addition to its stylish derriere, Dodge offered the Sweptside with two-tone paint, wide whitewall tires and full wheel covers. The 1957 Dodge Sweptside Pickup presented here was the subject of a professional rotisserie restoration completed in 2006. Totally stock in appearance, its stylish two-tone paintwork, brilliant chrome and new two-tone interior underscores Dodge's fifties pickup bravado. Under the hood sits a fully detailed 270 cubic inch Hemi engine. Bordering on perfect, this before never shown 1957 Dodge Sweptside 100 Pickup will draw crowds and acclaim wherever it goes. When parked beside other trucks from the same era this Dodge Sweptside will appear "Straight Out of Tomorrow."
