Description: 1981 Ferrari 308 GTS Monster Garage
$18,500 2008 Barrett-Jackson Auction Scottsdale AZ
Ferrai Custom "Pasta Ferrari" built on the Monster Garage TV show
Mamma mia! Pasta plus sports cars? Who would've thought. Oh, wait, this IS Monster Garage after all. Jesse and his all-Italian-American team joined forces to combine their love of fine, hot Italian sports cars and fine, hot Italian cuisine. The toughest challenge for the team, was being a team. The poor teamwork started from day one. Not good when you have the task of fabricating a pasta machine and drive system. The team managed to inevitably overcome the pasta paradox. The passenger side seat was removed, and the pasta machine was put there in its place. A conveyor belt ran the pasta from the passenger side cabin, to the stove in the front of the car. A windshield was made, but never placed on the car. The driver side headlight was also removed to make room for the 20-pound propane tank, suitable for cooking any kind of pasta this machine can throw at you.

THE DESIGNERS: Jesse James, custom-bike builder/designer, West Coast Choppers, Long Beach, CA, Guido Bottazzo, transportation designer, Padova, Italy, Riccardo Carretti, pasta expert, Mission Viejo, CA, and Luigi Oldani, mechanical engineer, Oakland, CA. VEHICLE SPECS: Height: 42"; Width: 72"; Length: 164"; Ground Clearance: 5 3/4"; Weight: 2,500 pounds. Paint: West Coast Choppers, Pete Finlan. Special Welds: The Auger shaft was Heliarc welded to the output shaft on the reduction box. Plus, the steel was MIG welded. Additional Acquired or Machined Parts: There are pillow block bearings for the shafts. Conveyor belt material was added to work with the actuator in the hood. The holes for the two driven shafts in the mixing hopper were specially machined. An indexable boring bar was used to make the fit into the shafts precisely. Also added a propane stove, pasta worm gear and extruding die. Moving Parts: A 1hp 12-volt OC electric motor, 12-volt DC fractional HP motor and a worm gear reduction transmission, driving two shafts, one mixing and one extruding via a chain and sprocket mechanism. A windshield wiper motor was used to drive the conveyor belt.
