Description: 2003 Toyota Monster Garage Jet Car
$17,000 2008 Barrett-Jackson Auction Scottsdale AZ
2003 Toyota Celica Custom "Jet Car" built on the Monster Garage TV Show
To date, it's the fastest monster ever, topping speeds of more than 200mph. And its engine? A Rolls Royce Viper MK22 that generates 6,300 pounds of thrust. "The biggest technical challenge was converting the suspension from wheel-driven to thrust-driven. But no, there was never a time when anyone was worried about being able to complete this challenge," Segal Motorsports owner Jerry Segal said. Segal was asked to participate after being recommended by the National Hot Rod Association. In addition to the suspension, the frame of the car needed to be extended 30" to build the sub-frame to mount the 640lb behemoth engine. Body modifications included removing the stock engine, dash and seats and lengthening the Celica's body. Jesse and his team also built a supporting sub-frame and network for the jet engine and fuel system, a roll bar around the driver's seat and parachute tubes.

THE TEAM: Jesse James, custom-bike builder/designer, West Coast Choppers in Long Beach, CA, Joe Ruggless, racecar driver, Lockheed Martin Skunk Works in Palmdale, CA, Marty Schwerter, Toyota Pro-Celebrity Celica project manager, Toyota Grand Prix in Huntington Beach, CA, Ralph Snider, jet-car builder and truck driver from Mcloud, OK, Jerry Segal, owner, Segal Motorsports in Las Vegas, NV and Ben Wood, fabricator and assistant manager, Monster Garage in San Jacinto, CA.
