Custom PT Cruiser "Wood Chipper" built on the Monster Garage TV Show
It was a simple plan: Take apart a PT Cruiser and transform it into the slickest tree chipper. Maybe too simple. The Cruiser didn't have much room to work, so once the car was gutted, the team turned their attention to an out-of-commission chipper. They torched the chipper's feed mechanism and engine free, then went about putting together the precise size and weight measurements necessary to squeeze the chipper mechanisms into the car. The team removed the Cruiser liftgate and fitted it with a pelican hinge, reversing the liftgate so that when functioning, the closing liftgate would pull objects directly into the chipper's feed mechanism. And since the car needed an air-bag suspension to support the excessive weight, the team removed the MacPherson strut independent suspension and rear springs and refitted them with an EAI air-suspension system. Finally, because it's just plain cool, the team decided to create a monster amplifier by directly routing both engine exhausts into the discharge tube so that the Cruiser's motor and the chipper's engine would roar together.

VEHICLE SPECS: Engine: 2.4 Liter DOHC 16-valve SMPI I-4; Exhaust: retrofitted with flame-thrower kit; Transmission: 5-speed manual; Converter: 150 bhp at 5,200 rpm; Drive Shaft: front-wheel drive, displacement: 148.2cid; Steering: power-assisted rack & pinion steering, 18:1 ratio; Front Suspension: independent suspension retrofitted with EAI 4-inch x 4-inch hard shaft, Parker top and side port air cylinder; Rear Suspension: solid trailing arm twist beam with EAI 255C 2,500-pound, 3/8-inch port; Brakes: front: disc; rear: drum; Tires: Toyo Proxes 245/35/20; Wheels: 20" #44 Jesse James. Electronics: stock plus EAI 5 switch air-suspension system controller. Body Honduran mahogany veneer, with ash strips and mahogany Maltese-Cross inlays. Paint: House of Kolor black base coat, Root Beer Kandy base coat and Pagan Gold Kandy base coat were blended and applied, with a clear coat sealing the deal. MONSTER SPECS: Hydraulics: Morbark hydraulic pump is Vickers vane style with a 4-gallon ring. It's engine-driven (live hydraulics) at a speed that pumps 6.5 gpm. Moving Parts: Morbark Feeder Model #2070 XL Twister Special Welds: A sub-frame was built to hold the Morbark chipper's additional weight.
