Shelby Cobra 427 Re-Creation
$46,000 2008 Barrett-Jackson Auction Scottsdale AZ
Car was professionally built by Cobra artisan whose cars have won at every kind of show from local to as prestigious as the Oakland Roadster Show. Completed in 1998, it is in flawless condition. Chassis: Contemporary Cobra, uses 4" round tubing frame rails as original. Suspension: Independent front and rear with adjustable coilover shocks, chromed springs. Brakes: Wilwood. Wheels: Halibrand pin-drive knock-offs. Engine: Ford iron block 427 side oiler block cast in 1965 and first assembled for this car in 1997. So of course, it is standard bore, standard bearings. Carburetor: single 4-barrelHolley as original. Ignition: MSD distributor and capacitive discharge box that has very original look, but delivers modern reliability. Intake: Original and virtually irreplaceable Ford sidewinder manifold that places the carburetor in the center of the hood. Transmission: Richmond Gear 4 1. Clutch: 11" diaphragm with hydraulic throw-out bearing. Enclosed by Lakewood Scattershield. Differential: Jaguar with limited-slip. Ratio=2.88:1. Body: Fiberglass with a level of finish is so exact that show judges have asked if it was fiberglass or aluminum. All inner lips of fenders are finished and painted. Areas not painted are either undercoated or covered with hand-brushed aluminum panels. Trunk panels, engine bay, firewall, radiator and oil cooler shrouds, and underside of hood are all fitted with custom- built hand-brushed aluminum. Position of aluminum hood scoop, rivets and tonneau pins were all placed using templates made from an original car. The paint is a custom blended pearl/mica version of the original Presidential Blue with white stripes, followed with clear coat. Interior: All black glove leather including door panels with map pockets and dash. Carpet: Wilton wool just as was done in the 60's. Gauges are all Smiths, as original, including counter-rotating speedometer. Once again, placement based on templates made from original car. Three-time trophy winner and one of few non-Shelby cars invited to gathering at Shelby Factory in Las Vegas. This is a re-creation of the original that requires no apologies. Titled as a 1965 Ford.
