The 1955 Chryslers were completely restyled, given the "100 Million Dollar Look" under designer Virgil Exner's leadership. The most expensive model in the Chrysler line was the HEMI V8-powered New Yorker Deluxe Town & Country station wagon. Only 1,036 were built. This 1955 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe Town & Country station wagon, adorned with its wonderful 50's pastel coral paint job, has a presence that is emblematic of the decade. Other details include the dash-mounted stalk shifter for the Powerflite automatic transmission but its crowning achievement is the extensive wooden flooring, tailgate gap filler panel, and bright chrome rails and hardware which extends from the back of the second seat all the way to the tailgate. This Chrysler has chrome wire wheels, wide white wall tires, power steering, power brakes, clock and a push-button radio in addition to the 331cid/250hp Hemi V8. This is a knock-out piece of 50's history. The chrome is like a work of art, as is the intricate instrument panel. The paint, body, chrome and interior are show quality. The interior is spectacular in white with beige checked cloth inserts and coral carpets that match the exterior color. Most New Yorker Town & Country wagons have been used to extinction for their utility or sacrificed for their HEMI-head V8 engines, making this beautiful coral Town & Country exceptionally rare and desirable.
