1966 Chevrolet Chevy II Coupe
$42,000 2008 Barrett-Jackson Auction Scottsdale AZ
1966 became the memorable year when GM combined the little Nova coupe with the L79 Corvette 327 engine option, packing 350 horses. This was the muscle car that ruled the streets in my Midwestern high school days. With just a little bolt-on breathing help and some fat tires, it was an out of the showroom street winner almost every time. 35 years later, nostalgia and a love for that little Chevy II sent me on a quest to own one of those memories. I tell you this because I am not a dealer, a restorer or even a collector really. I am just a guy that had to have for a little while that '66 L79. The Protect-O-Plate which came with the car matches numbers to the VIN and partial VIN metal stamped in the wheel wells of the car. This little Nova was born with the L79 engine option. So I represent this car to you as it was to me -- a very good off-frame restoration. The restoration was done in 2000-2001 and I purchased the car fully done on December 10, 2001, from Corvettes & Classics of Houston, Texas, for $33,000. It has been garaged in Scottsdale, Arizona, since that time and driven only to keep the parts moving. Some liberties were taken in the restoration. It now has an electronic ignition system, no radio antenna and a re-stamped engine block, however all in all it appears to be a very good restoration.
