1973 Volkswagen Thing Model 795
$30,000 2008 Barrett-Jackson Auction Scottsdale AZ
VW only produced 25 of the Model 795 Things in model years of 1973 and 1974. This rare 1973 is the result of a complete body-off restoration by Larry Dustmann of The Thing Shop. Every part and surface has been replaced with new or rebuilt parts. Many parts have been powdercoated. This vehicle includes a new convertible top and frame, new upholstery with powdercoated seat frames and new side curtains. This car also has the completely rebuilt, rare and working Eberspacher BN4 gas heater under the front hood. This car looks and drives like it just came off of the assembly line; inside and out. New 1973 Jet-Glo urethane orange paint is done as original. Not over-restored. Very low, original mile car with under 7,000 miles before rebuild. Complete body-off rotisserie restoration. Complete mechanical restoration including both the engine and transmission. Cad-plated hardware as original. Powdercoated chassis with bed liner on the underside for sound proofing. New powdercoated heavy-duty top frame by The Thing Shop. New Saddle Tan convertible top and boot. New tempered glass sliding side curtains with Saddle trim interior. Two black, fleece-lined side curtain bags. Powdercoated original seat frames with O.E. seat pads and covers. O.E. floor mats. Kubel hardwood duct boards, show bar cage with protection padding by The Thing Shop. Rare, original dual air cleaners. New O.E. bumpers front and rear. Driven less than 150 miles since the rotisserie restoration was completed in 2007. Registered in the State of California.
