The 1969 Camaro is considered by many to be the pinnacle in collectible Chevrolet pony cars. Not only was the Camaro stylish, but dominated the racing circuit, by winning the Trans Am series for two consecutive years. The Z28 version is to many the best of that breed. Its exclusive high-revving 302 small block was a well balanced machine that also dominated it competitors on the drag strip. Available only with the 302 and a 4-speed Muncie transmission, and a host of suspension upgrades allowed these cars to be proven to have excellent brakes and handling gave its muscle car nature a sporting streak.
This particular example was originally ordered and equipped with a special and unique JL8 braking system used in the Trans Am car, and is one of 206 ordered with this option, but actual figures show perhaps as few as 56 cars being so equipped. Whatever those numbers, the original JL8 package featured 11 ?-inch front discs rather than the standard 11-inch units, making them quite rare indeed.
Another rarely-ordered option much in demand today is the famous Cross-Ram intake manifold mounting twin Holley four-barrel carburetors that added 35 horsepower. This was intended for drag and road racing and was an-over-the-counter offering that was usually dealer-installed.
The car offered here is a factory-original JL8-equipped Z28 Sport Coupe with only 50k original miles. This car was unrestored and in excellent condition prior to our restoration, which the hundreds of photos before during, and after will verify. Most of the components were born with the car, and have been restored to concours quality. For instance all sheet metal is original, engine, transmission and rear are what the car was originally born with. Seldom does a car equipped like this, and with this level of pedigree and provenance become available.
The car offered here a very special factory-original JL8-equipped Z28 Sport Coupe, also has a factory-original Cross-Ram intake set-up installed. It has undergone a painstaking frame-off restoration that was completed by Camaro expert Jerry MacNeish, who certified the car as an original JL8 vehicle. To finish things off the very desirable Code 52 Garnet Red, the Z retains all its original sheet metal and runs on the correct 7" by 15" Rallye wheels and Goodyear Wide Tread GT polyester tires.
Besides the power-assisted four wheel discs, options include power steering, bright wheel well trim, and a fiberglass deck spoiler. As a testament to the cars prior condition, the complete original interior was reused. This car has always been cared for and it's interior is proof of its life long pampering.
The extensive documentation includes the original window sticker, a copy of the factory broadcast sheet, and a letter from Jerry MacNeish certifying the car's authenticity. The car has it all, Performance, Provenance and Pedigree, which make's this a true investment quality vehicle.
