1969 Plymouth Road Runner Hemi 426 Coupe
Final Bid: $ 116,600.00 - Russo & Steele Auction Scottsdale 2008
Authentic 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. This Car of the Year, was ordered by the original owner as a non-descript daily driver, with white wall tires and full hubcaps, so as not to alarm the quiet neighborhood. But lurking beneath the gleaming gloss black finish was Chrysler's legendary Hemi 426 CI 425 horsepower engine. Hooked to a 4 speed transmission with a Hurst shifter which put power to the rear wheels through a "Track Pak" 3:54 Dana 60 Sure Grip Axle. Original Saddle Tan bench seats with options of full tinted glass, AM radio, heater and defroster were all the creature comforts.
Other than being tuned to run on today's 91 octane gas, this car is the way the factory built it in 1969 with it's original parts. Original dealer papers, bill of sale, window sticker, build sheet, owners manual and warranty booklet. This rare piece has been decoded and visusally confirmed - all numbers match by Galen V. Govier and is in his Registry.
Only 421 Plymouth Hemi Road Runners were made in 1969. This one was built at the St. Louis plant on March 11, 1969 and delivered March 22, 1969. The Black Exterior, Tan Interior, Low Options, Full Wheel Covers with White Wall Tires make this Road Runner a True Collector's Car as one of the rarest of the 421 made. This car has graced the pages of Hemming's Muscle Machines Magazine (May 2007), displaying the raw muscle the 1969 Plymouth Road Runner offered in 1969.
