This is an original 1970 442 W-30 convertible, one of 264 produced. It has been fully restored with numbers matching parts, and has been painted in its original Galleon Gold livery. It is, if anything, better than when it left the factory.
The 445 CI engine produces a conservatively rated 370 hp, torque is 500 ft/pound and the rear end is the optional-for-1970 3.91. While of virtually concours quality, this car is no trailer queen, having successfully completed the prestigious Muscle Car 1000 rallye last October and having turned in very competitive quarter mile times at California Speedway in the course of the rallye.
Oldsmobile was known as "The Banker's Hot Rod" and their cars were often luxurious as well as powerful. In addition to bucket seats and a center console, this car has a full complement of creature comforts, including factory air conditioning, power steering, power brakes (front discs), power windows, power locks, remote trunk release, AM-FM radio and 8-track player. It is equipped with the tic toc tach and rallye pack, rallye wheels, rallye steering wheel, rallye mirrors, tilt wheel, convenience light group, speed minder speedometer and night watch headlight delay.
According to the prior owner, the car underwent a frame off restoration and was restored to factory stock specifications. The body consists of all original rust free body panels, OAI hood, floors, trunk, frame and NOS fenders and quarters. All stainless was buffed or polished, bumpers and trim re-chromed as needed. Engine and undercarriage were detailed to show condition, with new decals as needed.
The 4 bbl Rochester carb is numbered 7040258; exhaust manifolds are cast W and Z; sway bars are boxed, cylinder heads are correctly cast F and the 6-digit casting number is 404438; aluminum intake manifold is cast 406115; turbo hydra matic is labeled OW; differential ratio code letters are TO, confirming the 3.91 rear end; engine casting number is 396021F and the car has a heavy duty (4 row) radiator.
