Personal Info: 2005 Shelby Cobra Replica Roadster
Final Bid: $ 51,150.00 - Russo & Steele Auction Scottsdale 2008
Hardy Motors in California professionally built this Cobra. The exterior is what Ford/Shelby had in mind when they first built the 427SC Cobra. It is blue with white strips. It has the Halibrand knock-off rims, with tires that replicate the originals. Has the front end that was originally from an MG, and it was completely rebuilt in 2006.

The roll bar seems different, but in actuality, it's what was designed on the original Cobra. What we mean is the typical roll bar has the prongs behind the driver's compartment. This has one structural bar that goes into the driver's compartment. This is how it was originally done.

The rear-end is a Jag independent suspension rear-end, this is the only thing that is not original. The old tube type rear-end was not very good, so most of the serious builders to replicate the Cobra changed to an independent rear end. It has the Ford top loader four-speed transmission. The interior replicates the original, with its seats, dash, floor panels, etc. The trunk and engine compartments are lined with polished aluminum.

The engine is a 427 side oilier big block Ford. The dyno indicated that it puts out 377.01 torque (Ft/lbs.). In November 2005, the current owner spent $9,917.27 to have the motor built to my specifications. We put all new components in the motor, including Eagle Rods, Keith Black pistons, Eagle solid lifter cam (.571: lift, 108 degrees duration), Edelbrock aluminum heads (76cc), and Milodon cam gear drive. The whole motor is balanced. We shaved the flywheel and installed a new heavy-duty clutch and pressure plate.

We installed a high rev starter. The Cobra has four-wheel disk brakes. To get the proper gas flow to the carburetors, we installed a 5/8"fuel line from the gas tank to the carbs. We have a two four barrel polished manifold for carburetion (original Ford OEM). To make this run properly, we contracted Demon Carburetors and had two four barrels carburetors custom built to the engine. Demon takes all the specifications of the motor, tuning, and timing and custom designs carburetors especially for that motor.

Other than the disk brakes and the Jaguar rear-end, which has improved the performance of the car, we have replicated this Cobra to its original specifications. The fact that it has the motor of the period increases the value tremendously. This Cobra is for the serious collector. This car is titled as special construction.
