1927 Duesenberg Race Car
In its day, Duesenberg was an awesome force in the racing world. In 1921 Duesenberg won the French Grand Prix at LeMans as the first Amercian entrant to win that prestigious race. From 1913 to 1937, Duesenbergs were raced in the Indianapolis 500. In the 1922 race, eight of the first ten finishers were Duesenbergs, including the winning car.
This Duesenberg Indianapolis race car was first driven at the Indianapolis 500 in 1927 and was raced in various forms until 1937. In 1929 the car was part of the Duesenberg factory team and placed third with Jimmy Gleason behind the wheel. If not for some bad pit work at lap 195, it could have won the race. This car was the last Duesenberg to race in the Indy 500 finishing 11th in 1937.
