1964 Dodge Light-Weight Drag Car
One of the most famous of the limited-edition light-weight Dodge and Plymouth drag cars was the National Champion 1964 Dodge named "Color Me Gone" tuned by Dick Branster and driven by Roger Lindamood. Tens of thousands of plastic model kits of this car were sold to model builders. Chrysler first equipped thses cars with a 426-cid max wedge engines (identififiable by the dual hood intakes), then shifted to "King Kong" 426-cid Hemis (single hood intake). Weight reduction, critical in drag racing, was acheived by the use of an acid-dipped body shell, light weight bumper stampings, magnesium front wheels and aluminum hod and front fenders. Quater mile time was 11.7 seconds at 124 mph.
This car is a reconstruction of the original car using performance parts and doors from the original, but the balance of compenents from another light-weight drag car.
