1953 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV Limousine
Coachwork by Hooper
Used bt His Highness Abdul Illah, Prince Regent of Iraq
One of the rarest Rolls-Royce motorcars ever built - and the only model to be factory equipped with a straight-eight engine - the Phantom IV was available exclusively to royalty and heads-of-state. Only seventeen were delivered to customers when they were new. This car carries the only example of this style of Hooper coachwork fitted to a Phantom IV. It was built to the order of His Highness Abdul Illah, the Prince Regent of Itaq for the coronation of his nephew, the King. Unfortunately, the Prince was assassinated in 1959 in the revolution that eventually brought Saddam Hussein to power. At the time of the uprising, the car was at Hooper's in London for servicing and was saved as a result. The Phantom IV is so highly refarded that, of the seventeen cars delivered new to customers, eight are still owned by their original purchasers or their heirs.
