1959 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith All-weather Cabriolet
Coachwork by Hooper
Used by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip and Prince Charles and Princess Diana of England
This cabriolet is one of a pair ordered by the Australian Federal Government for a scheduled visit by King George VI and Princess Elizabeth during the late 1940s. While illness prevented the King from traveling, Queen Elixabeth used them during her two-month Australian tour after his death. They were also used for visits by the Queen Mother, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, numerous other heads of state, and the Pope. Intended for long-distance travel on dusty roads, the majestic cars were fitted with special air cleaners and extra lage capacity fuel tanks. In 1994, both cabriolets and four other Rolls-Royce motorcars were sold out of the government motor pool at a sale of Australian State vehicles when it was determined that they were used so infrequently that the costly regular maintainance required could not be justified.
